How we organise and compare AI agents

Our goal is to be the most trustworthy answer to "what's the best free AI agent for X." Here's how we decide what to list and how we order it.

What we evaluate

• Real free path — fully free, a usable free tier, or open-source self-hosting. We state exactly what the free tier includes.
• Capability — does it act as an agent (multi-step, tool-using), and how well does it do the job?
• Setup & privacy — how hard it is to start, and where your data goes.
• Upgrade path — if you outgrow the free tier, is the paid step fair?
• Freshness — listings show a review date. Tool features, pricing, and licence terms can change after that date; check the vendor before buying.

Editorial independence

The agent directory and category lists are alphabetical. Sponsorship does not change that order or qualify a tool for the homepage selection. Sponsored listings carry a visible label. Separate best-of articles present editorial recommendations, while the leaderboard uses its stated criteria; neither should be read as customer review scores.

Ratings and evidence

We do not currently publish numerical customer ratings or review counts. Comparisons describe features and use cases; they are not a substitute for verified customer reviews. A public code repository also does not, by itself, establish that a tool has an open-source licence. Free software may still require paid hosting or model usage.

Corrections

AI tools change fast. If a free tier or feature is out of date, tell us via the submission form and we'll fix it.
